Here are the major news updates from today:
- The state Department of Labor has received more than 250,000 unemployment claims since March 13, according to Hartford Business Journal.
- CSCU CFO Benjamin Barnes said university refunds for meals and housing will average $3200 per student, “resulting in a loss of about $25 million for the state universities and about $30 million for the community colleges…” Journal Inquirer, via The Day, has more.
- Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin posted a statement on Twitter urging city residents to comply with Governor Lamont’s social distancing orders. It read, “[Gov. Lamont] has issued strong social distancing orders. Respect them. For those you love, and for others. Our health inspectors and police will be working to ensure compliance. But at the end of the day, this is about all of us working together — by staying apart.”

Gov. Lamont has released safe store rules per executive order:
- For information about the CT Dept. of Banking’s 90-day grace period for mortgages, visit the state site here.
- Businesses and nonprofits considered essential during this time have been enumerated by the DECD here.
- Gov. Lamont has asked the private sector to help supply the state with personal protective equipment (PPE). The state’s request for PPE can be found here.
