Former WTNH reporter Fredricka Whitfield(who is sometimes called “Fred” on the air by her colleagues) was forced to apologize this weekend for remarks she made during a live interview about a shooting at Dallas police HQ.
During live coverage on Saturday she mistakenly said that the shooting suspect was “courageous and brave…if not crazy” to attack a police station. The comments, which were clearly nothing more than a poor choice of words, set off an immediate, weekend sized tempest in the world of right wing and news media bloggers. On Sunday afternoon Whitfield came on the air and said she misspoke and in no way meant to imply the gunman was courageous or brave.
And then, she moved on in a very professional manner that showed she had spent time in Connecticut.
Whitfield has been with CNN since 2002.
