End of the News As We Know It

Soon New York City will have only one all news radio station.

Audacy, the owner of WCBS 880 and 1010 WINS has announced it has signed a licensing deal to allow ESPN New York to broadcast at 880 on the AM dial. The transition will be made in the fall. (ESPN New York currently airs at 98.7FM).

Audacy plans to continue the all-news format on 1010 WINS, but says changes in the news business – namely how news is delivered – makes it untenable to sustain two all news stations even in a market as big as New York.

There is no word yet on how many will lose their jobs, but there is a good chance the jobs to be eliminated will affect staff that either live in Connecticut, or have professional ties here.
