As Mark Pazniokas of the CT Mirror reported on 10.27.22, “One donor spent $2.2m underwriting ads attacking Ned Lamont.”
The donor is Old Lyme businessman J. David Kelsey. He’s also the principal funder of the CT Examiner.
Two weeks ago, the news site reported a poll it commissioned which found a far closer race in the gubernatorial contest than recent surveys by Quinnipiac University and Emerson College, which each gave Lamont double-digit leads.
Most news organizations partner with nonpartisan polling outfits, but the Examiner’s poll was conducted by Fabrazio, Lee & Associates. It’s a Republican polling firm that highlights its work for former President Donald Trump on its website.
From The Mirror: With the $750,000 he gave CT Truth PAC through June and $1.45 million to the RGA through September, Kelsey has contributed a total of $2.2 million in the effort to unseat Lamont, a first-term Democratic governor.
