Congratulations to former state lawmaker Kevin Rennie who is marking his 15th year as a columnist for the Hartford Courant.
When Rennie first began his column, his former colleagues in the legislature and reporters at the Courant were not quite sure what to make of him, because he was not just expressing his opinion, he was breaking news.
Politicians were confused, because Rennie was breaking the code of the brotherhood. Some reporters were confused about whether they needed to follow up on Rennie scoops. Eventually they did follow up. It can be argued a Rennie scoop about former Governor John Rowland’s use of a Republican Party credit card was the first story that eventually led to Rowland’s removal from office.
