As is often the case when someone abruptly resigns on a Sunday night without public comment, there is more to the story behind Sally Buzbee’s resignation as executive editor of The Washington Post.

As is also often the case when the news is bad, it takes another news organization to find out the truth of the matter. In this case, The New York Times reveals Buzbee had “clashed” with the paper’s new CEO about coverage that included his association with a British phone hacking scandal and an attempt to offer Buzbee a new job that she considered to be a demotion.
