The Connecticut Council on Freedom of Information honored several local journalists for their contributions and efforts to shine a bright light on issues and government actions that affect us all. Congratulations to:

Hearst CT Media reporter Tara O’Neill, recipient of the Champion of Open Government award. Tara was handcuffed and detained by Bridgeport Police while lawfully covering a protest on the second anniversary of the officer-involved shooting death of a city teen.

The Waterbury Republican American’s late Editor and Publisher William Pape, who posthumously received the Lifetime Achievement award.

Staff at the Hartford Courant, who were recognized for their 5 year effort to access documents related to the Sandy Hook shooting
