This has been reported already by To Wit but somehow we missed it: former Hartford Courant political columnist Michele Jacklin is running for Town Council in Glastonbury. The Council has nine members and is now controlled by Republicans, 6-3. Michele is on a slate with five other Democrats. All six Republican incumbents are seeking re-election; two members of the Democratic ticket are incumbents. Michele is currently Director of Media Relations at Trinity College and we asked her about this step that she’s taking: “As for making the leap from being a political reporter/columnist to running for office, I think people had a misconception that I disliked politicians because I held them to high standards and was often critical of them when they didn’t meet those standards. On the contrary, I have great respect for people in public life. One of the reasons that I’m a candidate this year is because I believe in public service and want to give something back to the community where I’ve lived for 26 years and where my children received a terrific education.”
I’m surprised she is a democrat (scarism mine)
Good luck, if you are as good in politics as you were in journalism, the good folks in Glastonbury (where I graduated high school from) will be lucky to have you.
