An icon of New York television news is dead.
Gabe Pressman of WNBC-TV died in his sleep early Friday morning, according to his wife. He was 93.
Pressman occasionally made his way to Connecticut while following stories for his New York audience. His on-air presence epitomized the big screen image of a hard-scrabble, big city reporter who went through life cutting the powerful down to size through relentless fearless questioning. Impressed by nothing and no one.
Until his death he was listed as a senior reporter for New York City’s NBC station and was also active on Twitter as recently as this month.
