NPR reporter Asma Khalid has a great first person report on her experience covering this year’s presidential campaign as a Muslim woman.
Khalid usually wears a hijab, so particularly at Trump events, the head scarf often led to an immediate and at times threatening reaction from crowds. Without it, Khalid writes, she is light skinned enough to pass as a “generic ethnic curiosity.”
Like Vice President-elect Mike Pence, Khalid is from Indiana.
