One of the longest running anchors in Connecticut television is moving to mornings – where the action is.
Keith Kountz, according to multiple sources, will soon take over the morning anchor desk at News 8 bringing stability to a team stunned by two key resignations in the last seven days.
Sources now say Jim Watkins left the station last week after a brief suspension. The details of what led to the separation are unconfirmed. Ali Reed gave her two weeks notice soon after Watkins’ departure. Her decision is described as personal.
Kountz has been with channel 8 for more than twenty years and currently anchors the noon and six o’clock news. His latest move to mornings shows that in TV slow and steady often wins the race. Hartford/New Haven market examples include; Ann Nyberg(anchoring since mid ’80’s) of News 8, Gerry Brooks(anchoring since mid ’80’s) of NBC CT and Denise D’Ascenzo(1986) of WFSB.
No word who may join Kountz as co-anchor, but there was TwitBook speculation several weeks ago about Lisa Carberg showing up at News 8 following her departure from NBC CT. We have no indication that is the case.
