Mark Davis was a force at the state capitol. He covered politics and government for WTNH starting in the late 80s, having joined Channel 8 as an anchor after a successful radio career in Boston. Indeed, he brought an anchorman’s flair for the dramatic to his coverage. He was always the first to ask a question at a press conference; he was no shrinking violet. But he was also no Ted Baxter. Some of us who simultaneously covered the capitol confessed that if we were not reporting on the 6pm news ourselves we were likely to tune in to Mark’s report to get the latest.
Mark once said that he tried to learn as much as he could about a story and would then figure out what 90 second amount of information was the most important to report. While that sounds obvious, some take the time to learn just 90 seconds worth.
