Investigative Reports & Editors (IRE) has announced winners of its awards for investigative and watchdog journalism. The Division III Print/Online winner is Hearst CT Media’s “At Risk: Boys & Girls Clubs and Sexual Abuse,” by Lisa Yanick Litwiller, Hannah Dellinger, Viktoria Sundqvist, Meghan Friedmann, Peter Yankowski, Humberto Rocha and Tatiana Flowers.
There were over 450 entries.
“This year’s entries were powerful examples of investigations that held institutions and people accountable,” said Jennifer LaFleur, an IRE board member and chair of the IRE Awards contest committee. “Many of the investigations also made use of innovative techniques, enabling them to do stories that could never be done before.”
In January, Hearst CT won the 2020 Michael Donoghue Freedom of Information Award from the New England First Amendment Coalition for the same investigative story.
