As long suspected, Hearst CT Media is looking to further establish its presence in the Hartford market and may be about to acquire the Journal Inquirer of Manchester.
A short item on Hearst websites says the deal could be complete by this weekend.
The combination of an established Hartford County property with a reputation for scrappiness and Hearst’s existing statewide reporting team could add new life to the JI specifically and the Hartford news market in general.
Sources with internal working knowledge of the on-going negotiations were under the impression this deal would be announced early next week, but something obviously drove Hearst to make the news known now.
