Hope Hicks of Greenwich has been named interim White House communications director.

Hicks has been with President Trump since before his campaign began and served as the campaign press secretary. She is either the third or fourth person to hold the title since Election Day depending on how you count. Connecticut College alum Sean Spicer held the job at least twice simultaneous with his role as press secretary.

It is unclear whether the job of communications director in the Trump administration is anything more than a title, because no one carrying the title has ever been able to control the president’s message. Hicks already holds the title of strategic communications director.

The White House says a permanent communications director will be named when the time is right.
