Later this morning(west coast time) the Tribune Publishing shareholders are scheduled to meet and the offer from Gannett to buy Tribune will be effectively on the table.
There is an expected vote on a proposed slate of directors. That vote could signal whether Gannett has made its case for a takeover.
Gannett has offered $864 million for Tribune. Tribune owns the Hartford Courant and several major papers like the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune. The chairman of the Tribune board has been strongly resisting.
