If you have seen the movie The Post, starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, you may have noted the character Frederick S. Beebe played by Tracy Letts.

Beebe, a Yale Law School graduate, was chairman of the board of the Washington Post Company, head of Newsweek and the company’s broadcast division. He died in 1973 around the time channel 3 in Hartford was being sold by the Travelers Insurance Company to Post-Newsweek. When Post-Newsweek took over in 1974, it changed the station’s call letters from WTIC to WFSB in honor of Beebe.
