At a ceremony in New York City, Quinnipiac University presented Lester Holt with this year’s Fred Friendly First Amendment Award.
The anchor of NBC Nightly News won praise for his recent interview with President Trump, during which the president said he fired former FBI Director James Comey because of “this Russia thing”[investigation]. Holt said the interview was “a very important moment” his career.
Holt also said the three nightly network newscasts are drawing 20 million viewers a night and predicted he will comfortably make it to retirement with those programs still pulling strong viewership.
