ALL VALLEY. ALL THE TIME.
Click here for a preview of the state’s newest online newspaper and Paul Bass initiative, the Valley Independent Sentinel. Readers of The Laurel have been given an advance peek before tomorrow’s launch.
The Valley Independent Sentinel will come out 5 days a week, several times a day, covering Shelton, Ansonia, Derby, Seymour and Oxford – an area that’s been without a daily news outlet since 1992.
It’ll be an online-only, multimedia site similar to the New Haven Independent. Both are published by the not-for-profit Online Journalism Project. Christine Stuart (of CT News Junkie) is the paper’s Capitol correspondent.
The editor is Eugene Driscoll, former web editor and City Hall reporter at the Danbury News Times. Another staffer is Jodie Mozdzer, who left the Hartford Courant, where she was Hartford schools reporter, for this job. They both live in the Valley. A team of freelancers has also started reporting stories.
The official launch event is taking place tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4 p.m. at Ansonia City Hall — next door to the old Ansonia Sentinel building, which has been vacant since that paper closed down 17 years ago.
