Is It Hallie’s Turn? And MSNBC Changes.

With the departure of Lester Holt from the anchor chair at NBC Nightly News, speculation as to his replacement immediately turns to former WFSB reporter Hallie Jackson who has been on a steady rise within NBC since she joined the network eleven years ago.

In addition to anchoring for NBC’s streaming service, Jackson anchors the Nightly News on Sundays, which is similar to the path Holt took to the evening news job.

What’s different however is the future of nightly newscasts in general. The recent departure of Norah O’Donnell from The CBS Evening News and her replacement with two co-anchors not noted for their star power suggests the networks have decided the evening news no longer serves as the most important real estate on the network landscape and is therefore not worthy of the biggest stars and the highest salaries.

Whoever replaces Holt will be inheriting a perch that has lost its former prestige.

Breaking…

After being scooped about its own news over the weekend, MSNBC announced a series of line-up changes late Monday.

As previously reported Joy Reid’s show has been canceled and she is leaving the network. Once the first 100 days of the Trump administration is complete, Connecticut native Jen Psaki – the former White House press secretary – will anchor the 9p.m. hour Tuesday through Friday. Rachel Maddow will continue to host the 9p.m. hour on Mondays. Alex Wagner will remain with the network as a political contributor.

Several other current on-air hosts will see their daily time in the anchor chair expand by one hour. The complete story is in the link for this post.
