It Isn't An Easy Job…

From WTNH Meteorologist Geoff Fox’s Facebook page:

Thanks to all for the kind words that have been posted on my wall and sent via email. However, the pity party for me should stop now. To those who’ve not been as kind, I take your comments very seriously. My job is dependent on your continuing trust. Make no mistake about it, I never want to let any of you down and …in your criticism I feel your pain. All this being said–be careful tonight and early tomorrow.

And NBC30’s Gerry Brooks ask us to please “have a heart” when castigating TV weather people…

I know almost all of the weather people at the Connecticut stations.  From Brad, Bob, Ryan and Darren…to Geoff and his crew…Bruce and his guys…and Joe and Garrett…they’re all good people who take their science seriously.

When a forecast doesn’t pan out as they expect, no one feels worse than they do.  And I guarantee you that today they feel very bad.  And very frustrated.

  1. I understand how the weathermen get things wrong. They all rely on information gathered made by other weather agencies are rarely have forecasts that vary too much from each other. Here’s what drives people nuts though: Even as Fox was apologizing on the air for the blown forecast, the rest of the TNH newscast went on as though we did get all the snow that was expected. Why wasn’t the newscast adjusted to reflect the fact that the storm was much-less newsworthy than expected? Do local TV news people realize how foolish it looks to stick a ruler into a 2-inch layer of snow in a parking lot? I’m not a TV news person, so admittedly I don’t understand the business fully. Do they sell ads predicated on a certain amount of weather coverage?
