WTIC’s best known sports utility player Joe D’Ambrosio is signing off from afternoon sports talk.
D’Ambrosio announced at the beginning of his Friday program that WTIC-AM will replace afternoon sports with more afternoon news talk beginning on Monday April 24th. Next week the afternoon time period will be slotted with fill-in hosts. WTIC will announce a permanent replacement sometime next week.
The WTIC-AM format change comes about a week after Andy Gresh, Joe D’s co-host, took a job hosting a sports talk show in Providence.
D’Ambrosio will continue doing UConn sports, Red Sox recap, the Travelers golf tournament, and other sports programming. On air he said the move was not his choice, but said the two year old sports talk format did not “push the numbers” in the afternoon so station management decided to move “in another direction.”
