Unusual commentary from the bench last week as Superior Court Judge Edward Mullarkey conducted a hearing on whether cameras will be allowed in the courtroom for an upcoming murder for hire trial.
During the pre-trial hearing, Judge Mullarkey questioned attorneys and representatives of local television stations and provided a running commentary on journalistic ethics and programming decisions. The hearing is scheduled to continue Tuesday. Mullarkey threatened to retire as a judge if anyone went to a higher court to challenge part of his expected ruling which will be written to protect the identity of a child connected to the case.
