Our friend and former Connecticut radio news guy Paul Murnane let us know that long time WINS anchor Judy DeAngelis is retiring from one of NYC’s two all news stations.
“Judy DeAngelis admits she has a few regrets from her 26 years as a morning news anchor on WINS (1010 AM).
“I always wanted to do a whole shift in an Irish accent,” says DeAngelis — and now she probably won’t, because next Tuesday will be her last day.
“I’m retiring on Sept. 30 because Oct. 1 is my birthday,” she says, “and I wanted my birthday off.'”
We love WINS because it’s one of the few stations that still has sound effects of teletype machines in the background of its newscast even though many of today’s listeners probably have no idea what all the noise is.
