As the world continues to cope with the fallout of the Twitter suspension of Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene there are growing questions in the syntax community about the definition of the term “permanent suspension.”

Greene’s personal account was “permanently suspended,” as a New Year’s gift from Twitter, after she repeatedly posted misleading information about Covid-19.

As is often the case, the word choice question was first raised on Twitter by New York Times correspondent Peter Baker:

This question has led some to ask whether it is possible to be “too much of a nerd”?
