It is no surprise that Steve Kalb is one of the most popular journalism professors at the University of Connecticut. He takes a personal interest in the career aspirations of each student and gives no-nonsense real world advice about how to succeed in a competitive field.
It is no surprise that this enthusiasm for the craft and for helping others extends to other aspects of his life.
Thurston.
Last week The Laurel mentioned the decision by NECN to eliminate its Vermont bureau and the job of reporter Jack Thurston who has covered the state for nearly twenty years. This caught the attention of Professor Kalb who messaged Thurston with encouragement and an offer to help.
This gesture earns Kalb our nomination for the “Good Human Award.” The thing is; we know it’s more than a gesture.
