“Legacy Media Must Die”

NPR and its locally affiliated stations, like CT Public Media(WNPR), are getting ready for a new year’s attack on their federal funding.

This has been an on-going battle for years. Republicans have long considered NPR to be a liberal leaning news organization that does not respect conservative points of view. This time there are a few differences. Republicans will soon have control of the House, the Senate, and the White House, and X owner Elon Musk has made clear his disdain for all legacy media. As an advisor to President-elect Trump, Musk has said the government should not be funding public media.

There were efforts to take away NPR funding in the last Trump administration, but they failed. This time the motivation is different, the power dynamic is different, and the outcome may be crippling to an already struggling part of the U.S. media landscape.
