We’ve spotted a trend over the last year of newspapers curtailing or even eliminating opinion sections. In particular, editorials and definitely newspaper candidate endorsements fall within that sub-category.

The reason can be found in data that shows newspaper publishers that the opinion section is the least read or clicked section of the paper and their associated websites.

This weekend, the Washington Post “retired” its weekly Outlook section which for seventy years has been a kind of weekly magazine of essays, opinions, and deeper looks. The Post will now shift all opinion writing to the traditional editorial page at the end of the “A” section.

We are not here to say whether this is good or bad. It just is.
