Hartford Courant columnist Jon Lender, departs from his usual government watchdog writing this week to preview an upcoming Netflix series on the biggest unsolved art heist in U.S. history. The robbery took place in 1990 at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. $500 million in paintings and other art were stolen.

One of the main suspects in the heist, Robert “The Cook” Gentile, lived in Manchester, Connecticut and thus fell under the scrutiny of long-time Courant federal crime reporter Ed Mahony. Mahony is one of several reporters featured in the Netflix series, created by Colin and Nick Barnicle, the sons of newspaper columnist Mike Barnicle.
