The Laurel has now independently confirmed that Scott Pelley is stepping down as the anchor of the CBS Evening News. The news broke overnight while Pelley, who has a home in Darien, was on a reporting trip for 60 Minutes in Turkey. This is not how the switch was supposed to be revealed. Pelley will return to the anchor desk to say goodbye.
Anthony Mason, the Mr. Reliable of CBS News, will fill-in for Pelley while a search for a replacement continues. Mason been with the network since 1986.
