The Associated Press is out with a report on the use of Artificial Intelligence(AI) in American newsrooms. The AP finds the use of AI in small and medium size newsrooms is small compared with national news organizations, but there is an interest in expanding its use, especially if it frees reporters to do more reporting and less grunt work. However, as a tool to cut personnel costs, most local journalists are against that app.
Poynter.org is reporting a trend in state legislatures toward considering budget items and tax breaks to help pay for local journalism. None has passed so far. The state level proposals come after a plan to include millions to support local reporting stalled in Congress. The money was wrapped inside the Build Back Better bill.
