Woody D’Oench, the long-time publisher of the Middletown Press died last week at his home in Old Saybrook. He was 93. D’Oench and his brother Derry bought the Middletown paper in 1959. Woody served as publisher for 32 years. Under D’Oench ownership, the paper published six days a week, had a circulation of 21,000 and employed more than 160 people, including nearly thirty reporters covering every town in Middlesex County. D’Oench’s nephew Peter was a well known reporter for WTNH in New Haven.

Former WTNH reporter Jayne Chacko has officially joined the NBC Connecticut news team. She was seen reporting last week from UConn. Chacko is one of several WTNH reporters who coincidentally all left the station last month.
