For those who follow the doings at the state capitol, this is your program: Capitol Report: Morning Update will premiere on CT-N starting May 2nd. It will air live from the Legislative Office Building every weekday, and broadcaster Diane Smith will host the show, previewing the day ahead. CT-N says that during this inaugural season the program will air for 15 to 30 minutes each day.

Morning Update combines the core strategy behind Capitol Report with the live, anchored approach developed by the network during the last election cycle. This will include interviews and discussion facilitated by Smith with lawmakers, government leaders, journalists and other experts on public policy.

  1. This is great news all around… new, quality programming brought to us by one of the most trusted, veteran journalists in state media history!!!

I just wish there was more collaboration between CTN and CPTV in terms of producing or simulcasting these types of programs on our public television stations. I say this because not everyone has cable TV, and more and more people are ‘cutting the cord’ as the price of cable continues to go up. As of now, the only way to watch CTN is through cable (viewing the online stream is tedious at best and not at all an option for those without the internet). I wonder if there’s any possibility of carrying CTN on a CPTV subchannel. Maybe our legislators could do something about it so that this wonderful source of programming and information is available to all residents of CT and not just those who subscribe to cable and the internet.
