NBC CT Sales VP Promoted to General Manager

WEST HARTFORD, CT – (May 10, 2013) – The NBC Owned Television Stations division of NBC Universal today announced that Ric Harris has been named President and General Manager of NBC CT’s NBC Connecticut / WVIT, effective immediately.  Harris brings more than 25 years of media industry experience to the job, the majority spent in general management and advertising sales leadership roles.

Harris was promoted to his new role after being named Vice President of Sales for NBC Connecticut in early March.  He joined the station from Accenture, where he was Manager of Communications, Media and Technology for two-and-a-half years.  Previously, Harris was Vice President of Digital Ad Sales for BET Interactive from 2008 to 2009, where he developed and led the multi-platform sales strategy for the network’s online, mobile and video-on-demand products.  He also was the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media and Strategic Marketing for NBC Owned Television Stations from 2005 to 2007.

From 2000 to 2005, Harris led WEWS, the ABC affiliate in Cleveland, as its Vice President and General Manager and was previously the General Sales Manager.  He started his media career at the station as a Local Sales Account Executive.  Harris also worked in sales roles at WOIO and WUAB, the CBS and UPN duopoly in Cleveland, and at Petry Television.

Harris holds a master’s degree in Communications Management and a bachelor’s degree in Communications and English from John Carroll University.  He is a member of a number of professional organizations, including IAB’s Digital Video Committee, and sits on the Board of Directors of the Broadcast Education Association.  Harris, his wife and their two children are in the process of relocating to Connecticut.
