As we reported several weeks ago, WPOP in Hartford(history) has made the switch from all sports to news/talk.
It is not quite the Newsradio 14 of two decades ago, which was originally patterned after WINS in New York, but it is an attempt to bring some more locally produced news programming into the market while introducing a set of syndicated talk shows that are not bitterly partisan.
The decision to simulcast WELI’s the Vinnie Penn Project in the morning also reignites a long held dream in Connecticut broadcast news of finding a way to unite the cities of Hartford and New Haven through news coverage.
WPOP also plans to carry play by play of the Hartford Yard Goats in their opening season.
