In a recent blog post, meteorologist Geoff Fox announced that he will not be back on air on WTNH to complete his contract and is looking for other work.
A few weeks ago when I learned there would be no new contract for me I was told I’d return on-air at WTNH following my vacation this Wednesday. That will not happen. Mark Higgins, WTNH general manager, told me he has changed his mind because all of this has become a distraction. Though not what I expected, this is his call to make.
Fox was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support he has received since his departure. We continue to wish him the best of luck.
Geoff will land on his feet and a year from now the GM will be looking for work. This is one of those **classic** examples of a firing (okay….not resigning the talent….virtually the same thing) gone bad. The talent looks more managerial, concerned about viewers and **above the fray** than the management.
And the not asked question is, “who is next?”
You would think that after 26 years of service that Lin Television (WTNH’s owner) would let the guy have a chance to simply bid farewell to his fans. Mark Higgins apparently has no class whatsoever and seems to lack business accumen as well. Ok, you want to wreck to WTNH “franchise” then go ahead, keep up that effort, but be warned. Viewers like me will speak to the folks who advertise on your station and tell them exactly what you did.
That is too bad they won’t even let him back on air for a day to say goodbye to the viewers.
that is horrible. After all that time, to not allow him the proper send off. unbelievable
What adds insult to injury is that Geoff Fox would very likely have gone downright “crazy” reporting on all of these snow storms and snow totals. WTNH not only deprived the fans of a goodbye, but made Goeff miss out on reporting on the record setting weather events to boot. Tsk, tsk.
WTNH seems hell-bent to tank themselves and I can’t understand what on earth they think they’re doing.
Will not be watchin 61 for anything after this. Geoff was the main reason my famil ( 5 families) watched the weather. What the heck is going on there. Getting rid of experienced people. Pay to high or just not catering to the baby boomers anymore.
LIN and WTNH are the ultimate losers. They will suffer the consequences of their own arrogance and stupidity. Geoff needn’t say goodbye to his viewers because his viewers will say goodbye to WTNH. I already have and two other people in my family who don’t use internet plan to join the boycott. It’s a matter of principle. Geoff was loved by his viewers and apparently the big Corporate morons can’t understand the concept of loyalty. I have already deleted WTNH from MacBook and iPhone and will not touch the 08 on TV remote. Goodbye WTNH.
[…] the past few months this seems like a good idea for a special program; and if a station had just jettisoned a well-known weather person and was hoping to continue the introduction of his replacement this is a good opportunity to do […]
