Less than a week after Tribune Publishing chair Michael Ferro declared the company is not for sale, the company’s second largest shareholder is voicing different thoughts.
Oaktree Capital, which owns 14% of Tribune Publishing(which includes the Hartford Courant) says Tribune should open negotiations with Gannett “and others” about selling the Tribune chain. This, so far minority opinion, is in line with observations made by several market experts in the days immediately following Gannett’s $815 million offer.
The wish to sell is at odds with Ferro’s plans to move forward with stabilization and expansion.
