A veteran reporter with Hearst Connecticut Media will be honored next month with the Mitchell Pearlman Freedom of Information Award from the Connecticut Foundation for Open Government.

Bill Cummings is being given the award in the journalist category for his work exposing the current controversy surrounding the State Police and fictitious traffic tickets. The matter is the subject of several official investigations and legislative inquiry.

Rhonda Stearly-Hebert, herself a former news reporter, will receive a Pearlman for her work as deputy communications director for the Connecticut Judicial Branch. Kevin Brookman is receiving the award in the public citizen category for his use of FOI law to reveal the workings of Hartford city government on his blog.
