Phil Donahue, a long-time fixture on American television screens, and a pioneer of the daytime talk show is dead at age 88. His show aired on WTNH in Connecticut.

His death was confirmed Monday morning. He died Sunday at his home in New York.

The Donahue show made its debut in Dayton, Ohio in 1967 and went on as a nationally syndicated program for 29 years.
