A few weeks ago WFSB issued a press release touting the results of the May ratings period: the station was #1 in every newscast. But as you’ll see from the comments on that Laurel post, there’s a longstanding TV-land debate about whether it’s more important to have the most viewers….or the most viewers in “key demographics”. Enter a recent release from WTIC/Fox61 titled “Fox CT Dominates Late News Again”. It boasts the strength of its 10 pm newscast (aren’t there only 2 in the market?) and the growth of its 11 pm show:
The FOX CT News at Eleven increased its household rating by 19 percent, double the growth and the only station that gained audience while two others lost audience.
Bottom line: they’re both right, and they both have results that their salespeople can show advertisers.
They might want to fix the typo in the boilerplate blurb on CT1 at the bottom of the release . . .
19% of nothing is still nothing.
