The afternoon newspaper known as the Hartford Times ceased publication in 1976 and several decades later its historic building, facing the rear of Hartford’s municipal building, became the cornerstone of UConn’s downtown Hartford campus.
Now the legacy of the paper is being revived by local entrepreneur and social change advocate Thomas Clynch.
Clynch secured the web address – HartfordTimes.com – about six years ago and has spent the time since deciding how best to use it. Quietly, on January 17, the new site was launched with the following mission:
“Our goal is to provide information equality — inclusive, consistent, and purposeful information for the people of Hartford to effectively participate in civic action and build our democracy. We will do this by sharing inspiring thought leadership, defending our community with compassion and courage, and together, proudly building a better state.”
HartfordTimes.com is set up as an independent non-profit. The current home page includes a range of stories from a diverse set of writers.
We wish the new Times luck.
