Long time Hartford Courant photographer, writer and reporter Rick Hartford has retired.
He is known for always dressing in black and quietly working the story around the edges. What you may not know is that his parents worked for the Hartford Times and that he began his career as a reporter until he became attracted to the idea of telling stories with pictures.
He wrote this for an article on the photos of the year back in January of 2017:
It’s all about light.
Often the kind that comes from within.
We stand at the edge of the crowd.
Or in the shadows.
Waiting.
Running on instinct.
Reading body language.
Drawn to the flame.
We move slowly,
Almost invisible.
But there is always an urgency inside us.
Let me see the light.
Let me tell your story.
