With word on the street spreading, the Meriden Record-Journal and Hearst CT Media are announcing a tentative agreement to sell the family owned Record-Journal to Hearst.
Hearst and the Record-Journal published separate versions of the news Monday morning. The RJ Media Group owns the Record-Journal, seven weeklies and several associated websites.
Both Hearst and the Record-Journal describe the buyout as a way to ensure the continued strength of local news coverage in the greater Meriden area. The deal could be finalized by the end of the year.
