There is an old saying that “in America anyone can be president.”
Now that the saying has been proven to be true people who perhaps never considered running for office are thinking it over. Exhibit one; Oprah Winfrey who mused this week that it’s now a viable option.
But by Friday, her good friend (and potential National Security Adviser) Gayle King, formerly of WFSB, was knocking down that possibility. Or as they say in Washington – walking it back.
The “anyone can be” concept is not limited to the White House. At The Laurel we have a list of nearly twenty people interested in running for governor in 2018. The most recent add comes to us through columnist Kevin Rennie who suggests strongly that retiring state police Lt. Paul Vance might be considering a run for statewide office.
