You never know…things can change quickly in TV and in politics, but those looking for clues as to whether New Canaan resident Joe Scarborough plans to run for governor of Connecticut in 2018 got a big hint Wednesday.

In an interview with TV Newser Scarborough stated pretty clearly that he and co-host Mika Brzezinski plan to stay with MSNBC through 2018 and are already looking ahead to the 2020 presidential race.

TVNewser: You’ve obviously been through a few campaigns yourself. Are you still interested in running for office some day?

Joe: Well, not for a while. Not until this ends. Like Mika said, this is the best job we could have and we’re working through 2018 and we’d love to work through the next election too because the crazy thing is that, and I can’t believe this, but after nine years not only are the ratings great and in some ways better than ever, more people are watching us now than have ever watched us before, the buzz around the show is bigger than it’s ever been, and we’ve done that for nine years and there just aren’t a lot of shows that get stronger nine years in.

There are many factors that could alter Scarborough’s current public line of thinking, but based on the success of Morning Joe – as of this writing – a run for statewide office in 2018 may not work with the calendar or Scarborough’s contract with MSNBC. Or maybe his latest comments are a strategic feint.
