As 2015 begins hard choices are being made in the business offices of many media companies.
Perhaps it began most visibly last year with the decision by the Hartford Courant to institute a pay wall. There is increasing evidence nationwide that business offices are beginning to make tough decisions in what may be a post “everything on the Internet is free” world.
Here in Connecticut the Valley Gazette and the Fairfield Sun have announced an end to their printed editions. The news came Monday from COO Martin Hersam:
To Our Valued Readers:
We will no longer be publishing a printed edition of The Valley Gazette. This was a difficult decision, but despite having an extremely talented and dedicated staff there was not adequate advertising to support continued publication. We will continue publishing on thevalleygazette.com. Thank you for your support and involvement with The Gazette and we look forward to continuing to serve you online. Circulation inquiries may be made at circ@hersamacorn.com
