Note from Dr. Larry Deutsch, Minority Leader (Working Families Party, Hartford City Council) regarding Face the State program for Sept 27:
Topic for Program stated as “who will run the City while Mayor Perez is in court?” In retrospect, we noted our suggestion of temporary hand-over of role during proceedings, as well as original reasons (presented two months ago, based on fiscal mismanagement) for calling for actual resignation.
Answering more specifically the “who will run the City” question, it’s important to recognize changing opinions and voting patterns on Council, evidenced by several majority votes including several seven-person veto overrides which have included Working Families Party councilmembers, along with several Democratic Party members — and isolating the two or three who have most consistently allied with the Mayor. Thus, the City may well be run by new alliances and coalitions of those who intend to correct recent imbalances: higher taxation of residents and small businesses, layoffs and service cuts, excessive administrative spending and bonding, reluctant document release, etc.
