The WTNH building in downtown New Haven has seen a lot of activity this week. Monday, CWA activists protested outside the building to support broadcast employees and technicians who are fighting for a fair contract.
The following day, Tuesday, WTNH hosted an event to showcase the new ABC shows coming for the fall season. The presentation was a live feed from NYC in which clips of hopeful hits were aired. However, when Jimmy Kimmel came out to the NYC stage, he said aloud what everyone was thinking- probably 90% of these new shows won’t survive the critical eye of viewers. This will most likely prove to be true because of the repetitive basic story lines that have been done before, but there were a few new hopefuls that seemed fresh and worthy of the spots they held in the line up.
“Flashforward,” a suspenseful thriller series about fighting to change the destiny that people get a glimpse of during a worldwide blackout, should produce a strong first season. The problem is that it’s hard to say where it will go after the world beats or succumbs to the destiny foreseen.
The most promising preview ABC presented was, “Modern Family,” a comedy about three completely different families that are all related. The clever documentary style of this show will give an uncensored reality sense to viewers. After seeing just one clip, the audience watching at WTNH was full of laughs.
