One of the longest serving anchors in local television news – nationwide – died this weekend in Washington, D.C.

Jim Vance worked at WRC in Washington for 48 years, most of that time as the lead anchor. He was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and just a few weeks ago was honored when his image was added to a street mural on the outside of Ben’s Chili Bowl on U Street. A mural that used to feature Bill Cosby.

Several reporters who got their start in Connecticut worked with Vance when they moved to Washington, D.C., including Jim Handly, formerly of WFSB.
