New York Times

Today’s New York Times story on the future of network journalism is fairly depressing overall and this paragraph stands out:

More journalists will become jacks-of-all-trades, wielding cameras, microphones and lights, as well as lists of interview questions. More production work will be conducted out of New York. “The ones who fear the most from the cuts are the ones that have a single function,” one ABC staff member said.

Can a reporter focus on getting the facts if he or she is worrying about the equipment? Can a photographer concentrate on capturing video if they’re busy on the cellphone talking to sources? Clearly it’s the future but how it will affect the quality of news coverage is a concern.
